Pilates.

Pilates is a system of exercises using special apparatus, designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture and enhance mental awareness.  Pilates targets the "powerhouse" muscles, which include the glutes, hips, pelvic floor, and lower back. • Mat-based Pilates – this is a series of exercises performed on the floor using gravity and your own body weight to provide resistance. The main aim is to condition the deeper, supporting muscles of your body to improve posture, balance and coordination.

  • Equipment-based Pilates - This includes specific equipment. Some forms of Pilates include weights (such as dumbbells) and other types of small equipment that offer resistance to the muscles.

Basic principles of Pilates.

They summarize the philosophy of the Pilates method and are essential to getting the most out of every exercise;

  • Concentration - Pay attention to starting position, slow and smooth movements as well as each part of the body. Stay focused and do not let yourself distracted.

  • Control - All exercises are done with control.

  • Centering - All movements start from centering – engaging core muscles (deep muscles such as diaphragm, pelvic floor muscles and their assistants). Centering helps to improve balance and posture.

  • Flow - Creating flow through the use of appropriate transitions.

  • Precision - Precision is essential to correct Pilates. The focus is on doing one precise and perfect movement.

  • Breathing - Breathing is important in the Pilates method. Oxygen inhalation refreshes brain and body. Deep breaths clear the lungs, relaxes and gives a better focus.
